steff345
Update time! I now cut the left side panel and did its initial mounting with piano hinges: The edge of the door is warped a bit - but this would not be a problem since the excess is going to be trimmed out anyway Next, I attached the angled block of wood to the side. Note that the edges are quite rough and needs smoothing and a bit of attention: I plan on cutting the door edge at an angle of 45 degrees to continue the length of the angled side further. A view of the door closed and the edge which is to be cut as described above.
steff345
A view from the right panel side: My pet cat has found something new to rub her tummy against hehe and there she is - watching me while I work (I just couldn't resist posting this up)
steff345
Hi guys, time for another update!! Started working on the base for the case. I plan on having it elevated by approximately 5 mm. Still a work in progress and must build upon this and will hopefully go well with the theme. Here, I cut a 45 degree angle, leaving 3mm height vertically from the base: I paused working on the base next so that I could cut the length after attaching both doors to the case, just to be sure I get the exact length without regretting cutting too earlier. So now I started wokring on the front panel which would house the USB and Audio ports. This is where it is to be fixed (I drilled 3 mounting holes in the front angled-cut): The piece of wood had to be two pieces attached side by side with a 5mm cut on one end so that it sits flush with the external panel (the glue is yet to dry up under the screws): Here's a better view of the 5mm cut: A view of the front side of it (needs sanding and a bit of attention): That's it for now! Thanks for looking!
steff345
Next, I fixed the several strips of 10mm x 10mm pieces of wood (to make up the blinds for the open-air design) to the right side panel. Came out pretty well, but needs a bit of attention and sanding to be perfected: A cut had to be made on the door, so that the door could be opened freely without hitting the front panel: That's it for now

steff345
Pretty interesting concept my friend, good luck with the execution!! Mod on! Thanks, and glad you find the concept interesting! The idea is a semi-open air/water cooled chassis, combining the 'best of both worlds' into one versatile package
steff345
Time for more progress! I now cut the top panel to accommodate the 240 rad: The edges are still rough as they need to be attended to. I took the photos while the cut was quite 'raw' A front view of the top panel now, after the cut: I also had to cut a 2mm slice in the back panel to ensure a smooth fit of the rad. Again, this needs a bit of sanding to smoothen it out, so please forgive the rough edges: Next, I worked on attaching the front panel to the case, as you can see, it came out quite well (much better than i hoped at least ) :
steff345
I then focused my attention of fixing the hinges on properly. For this, I had to cut a few grooves on the back panel, else, that nail heads would make contact with the panel and offset the door a little, causing a bit of gap between the door and the frame of the case. The grooves were cut out with a utility knife: A view of the cut groove: This was repeated for all 5 other hinge mounts as well: Once all 6 hinges were complete, I worked on finishing the base. Here's a view of the angled cut: And the final finished base: and until next time, adios!
