The Prime by GerbenWerkhoven, on Flickr

Hello readers!

My name is Gerben Werkhoven, I am from the Netherlands and I'm 17 years old. Case modding really started in spring of 2013 for me. But I quit 5 months after. Back in december 2014, I came back to the modding scene, I still had this CM690II project, which I scrapped all the plans of, and now I'm onto a fresh start with it. New side, front and top panels, and let's get the modding going!

What I aim for: I really just want a clean and sleek looking case, with a color scheme that fits my room. I don't have a lot of money for hardware and I will most likely be using my old hardware again.

Hardware:

Athlon II X4 640

MSI 760GM-P23

2x Asus ENGTX-275 (SLI if I get a new motherboard and PSU)

Corsair CX600 Builder

Corsair Value select 8GB Dual channel

2x Seagate 320GB HDD

Hello hello, some work in CAD, some work in the garage, ordered some parts, it's a nice Saturday :D

Here is some progress for you all :)

Who needs 1000 dollar equipment ;)

That looks like a job well done there

Third, I ordered some genuine coolermaster top, front, and side panels.

This is why I had to order new panels:
Well as you may or may not know, all panels of this case are drilled full of holes,
the top panel is filled with polyester, and the front panel is a bit cut up.
Most of this is done 2 years ago, when I first started and I had other plans :o
And a clean start always feels good ;)

Oh well, that's that.

Regards,
Gerben

Ideas ideas, maybe too many, but anyway gotta make the most of it. My side-/top-/frontpanels are coming in tomorrow.
Which means more mods :) I'm really liking the progress and how it all works out atm. Hope I can continue like this.

Easy measuring ;) My trick to making almost 100% accurate lines on steel.

A sunny Sunday! As you guys know, bare metal rusts, and you'd be surprised how fast rust grows.
Every time I touched the bare metal panels, 5 minutes later there would be rust where my fingerprints were.

After a bit of challenge hanging these panels on the garage door it finally happened :D

15941255448_1f91d891a2_z.jpg

First coat of primer, mainly against the rust.

Oh? well... ''Ghetto'' hanging techniques. This is the reason I could only do one side, but at least it worked :P

Discovered a small dent in the front panel, looking for a way to resolve this issue :/

That awful dent on the front panel was really bugging me, so here I am fixing it! Still had some polyester filling putty left from 2 years ago,
and I decided it was time! Time to use that awful stuff again, it worked out pretty well although this putty is really rough.

A bit of help from the polyester filler was a good choice :D

After it dried i sanded it down flat.

And a new flash of primer, god it looks amazing when it's wet!

And after it dried, the surface looks nice and flat, although it does need another coat of primer.

Small steps make for decent progress. I hope you're all enjoying the last moments of 2014!

Finished up the priming on the front-, top- and compartment-panel(s) :) And more ideas at the end! Just an update to end this year with, nice and big!

The backside of the front and top panel still hadn't been touched with primer so these get their first layer now.

And a light sand and paint prime on the second layer. The compartment panel already had one layer, so it's getting it's second layer now too.

This is the area were the dent was in the front panel. It's getting some more sanding and then filler primer.
The fronts (visible sides) of all the other panels also get a spay with filler.

After the filler dried it was time for some wet sanding to get all the last bumps/holes out of there.

And finally the last spray of primer on the front side, which turned out really good, and it's ''paint-ready'' :D

The hard-drive cage fits upside down 90° rotated, ON THE ORIGINAL HOLES :) I guess Cooler Master had this idea before I did?
This is most-likely how I am going to fit the drive cage, since I don't need any 5¼'' drive bays. It's a straight fit anyway so can't go wrong with this :)

And this was most likely my last update on this build for the year 2014.

I wish you all a happy, healthy and moddy 2015!

Gerben

Really don't like it when I don't have a lot of time, but I found some time to get some progress anyway.
I said something about the compartment panel earlier, no idea if you missed it but here we go!

Just when you thought you were done with this panel, *light bulb pops up* IDEA'S!
So there goes the primer :P Just cut a strip out here.

The ideas, all have been worked out in Solidworks before I did it for real. I've been hiding this render for you all till now :P

Quote from my Overclock.net forum thread.

I would also like to see white and absolutely not glossy black

After all the feedback about the colour I'm definitely going with white, and it's looking good imo! Thanks all :)

That's it for now, there's still a lot of blank spaces in this post, and you may be thinking ''what the :) is he doing'' but for now I think it's all going according to plan, man I love teasing; next update you will see how I am going to make it look seemless!

Regards,

Gerben
