Szabó Balázs Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Hi All This is my Living Dragon Mod, what I have made 2014.Im "BaluC" From Hungary / EuropeOn Facebook "BaluC Modder" (The only and whit the big Predator Head )Inside:CPU: Intel i7 4790kMotherboard: MSI Z97 - Gaming 7Video Card: MSI TwinFrozr Gaming - Geforce GTX 770 OCMemory: Corsair - Vengeance 16Gb - Black KitCPU Cooler: Cooler Master - V8 GTSPSU: Cooler Master - V700Sys Coolers: Cooler Master - BC 120 RedCase: Cooler Master - StackerHDD(s): WD / SeagateEXTRAS: Hand made (NO CNC/plazma/other ), motion, A Small Smoke machine inside the PC, 9 meter LED Strip, LOT work.My Dragon Moves, spits flames, but The fotos Couldnt Show thet But After the Pictures I link in a few Videos as well All Started whit a LOT of pappers A Pepacura dragon skull was the base, and a LOT cut, fold, sticking, more then 1300 (!) times. I resized the original files, but in the end, it where sthill TOO LARGE... (Im 192 cm -> 6,4 feet tall) The head is 104 cm long from nose to the end of the horn.
Szabó Balázs Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 Now the resin + fiber build. The jaw bone had no under or uper parts, so I had tu build them as well. To the jaw open / close i needed an axis. I didnt liked, the way as the Horns stood. So... Measure, Marking, Cutting, rejoining (for better fitting, turned the two sides), fastening, reinforceing...
Szabó Balázs Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 For the eyes I used Christmas tree decoration balls... and made several pairs... And now comes the next phase... Building, the "flesh and muscles" and a little extra in it, because a Dragon is not a simply liveform This time I used LED strips (SMD 5050 RGB Waterproof) under the dragons skin. But the Skull is absolutely not a cube, so I had to solder them in 3D, to fit the form. The firs layer of muscle (upholstery foam, cut in thin peaces), then could come a layer of silicone (electrical insulating AND it is flesh/skin like). Put on, work in, smoothing. This step was repeated a lot, so I wont mention it again... and again... and again... Until it dries, you can do Something else... Like The Eyes I Made a fer real Close photo from my wifes eye (Wanted Real / Lifelike Dragon Eyes ). Cleaned out, and played whit the colors a little, them printed out a few versions. Then made the First set. It was more like an experiment / learning process. The original Idea was to make the eye animatoric, and blink. The frame, what holds, the eye looks so: Then a few other trys, and whit a modified iris, the fourth pair was good enough for me
Szabó Balázs Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 Back to the head I had to Build the inside of the mouth whit tongue, and make the teeths / dentil. but a little test first Test video 1 Test video 2 Tunge: Drawn, cut, shaped, textured, and a metal wire to hold the shape... I had to make a a "painting stand". This is what i made I dont have Air-brush, so use only my hands and brushes of various sizes. In it the all the needed teeth + spare ones, and the tunge. More Painting, and test fitting and building the flesh on the LED strips. The Hornes are already painted silver, and sthill building the layers, Wrinkles and evil expression.
Szabó Balázs Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 The Concept is / was thet the Power of the Gaming PC brings life in the Dragon But a "simple" head alone is not enough, so... And on the spot, I made a test fitting More painting (iner mouth + some dental plaque) And here is an other part what cals this dragon to Live: A mini fog machine. ( Ok, a Real fire would be better, BUT on the DCMM it is not allowed to use open flames ) And gere is the testing of my concept, thet the smoke CAN be directed somewhere else (so I dont have to fit it in the head ) Te end of the Silicone (high temp resistante tube !) goes in the mouth of the dragon. And to make the Magic 12 LED-s (8 Red, 2 Orange, 2 Yellow) directed on the outcoming smoke + a little shimering for beter effect. This "beam of light" was too focused (in daylight it can be seen for 3-6 meters away on the wall) Later on I added four little LED strips to have a better efect (only RED is vonnected) At the end 24 LED-s are macking the "fire" VIDEO
Szabó Balázs Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 Free hand work: A little free hand drawing from a smaler "logo" (it is not alowed to show any logos, so a little "censored" the most of the logo), but I only used the design of the inside. This decorations place is ont the "round grid" on the CM Stackers Side panel. The White material is a PVC sheet. It was free hand cut, ewery single part, whit the Olfa black blades. Preparing for paint. I used a reverse masking tape, to hold the tiny peaces.
Szabó Balázs Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 There where a numerous modifications on the house, and a lot of them is hidden / not visible. Thets will be the next part
Szabó Balázs Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 Ok, here will be a little more text, then pictures. In the Stacker, I turned the motherboard tray in BTX to this mod. From the top The PSU went down, because the fog machine makes a LOT heat when operating, and I did't wanted to damage anything. I wanted thet only the Fogmachine makes smoke The MoBo, VGA, PSU... ewerything is upside - down. but it sthill looks cool. For the fogmachine I had to cut out a part from the orlginal PSU cage, to fit in there. But the fogmachine is way longer the na normal PSU, so I had to make a holder (support plate) and put in there. The whole uper part was taken a part, then i found out, thet the N10 (fogmachine) is 5 mm higher then it should. The N10 has 4 hard rubber legs, so I marked where they are and drilled them out. Then I folded the inner edge of the holes down. This way the fit is perfect, and the N10 wont move if I take it somewhere Like DCMM or Veletech or other Modder contest. This Mods was ment to finis for the 2014 Gamescon -> DCMM. There was the Premier For safety reasons, (If the N10 had some problems) from an old cases side panel i made an "oil trap tray" what is removable (3 screw holds it). In the tray i put some oil-absorbing material. The head of the Dragon was ready, and (whit some help from my Modder frend Soccer) made the fourth, and properly working mechanic for the movement it was near to finish. But the head ia and was too heawy. For reinforcing the top part, I had to put two metal plate (one abov, one under the top of the case) and rivets. A LOT was needed, but thanks to Cooler Masters designers, they planed this house a real, massive beast (this is the main reason for my choice). Reinforced, riveted, dragon head is on, and the time is running away. Put LED strips under the motherboard, and to the other side. I torn up the side panel, as a Dragon would, to get out from the PC, to reveal the inside. Then on the other side but this at the corner where the head "came out". Drawing, masking, painted all the parts as wanted. Just like under the MoBo, But this time i falowed the dragons curves.
Szabó Balázs Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 I ment to make the dragon (relatively) "living". Planed movements, and MADE ALL mechanik parts, cases, cabels: Eye (sideway move) Blinking Head turn, Up/dovn, and a "sideways nod" It was Saturday afternoon, when 3 of the servos where built in already, and programed them for the head. The Servos ment to handle a lot more the moved load. Tested a few times, and the movement becoming more smoother. After a hour i liked a lot and built in the forth. Tested... then a small smoke appeared... and NOT from the N10! I found the dead servo, and had a spare one. A quick change then testing, then... ok... Long story short: whit in a hour I had 4 (!) dead servos from 8! I repeat :Saturday afternoon! Made a LOt calls to frends, shops, Internet shops... but couldnt get any... This was 3,5 days before departure to DCMM! and a LOT of work + I wont move... (Panik ON!!) So, at an extreme hurry I had tu put together something, so the Dragon could move. The head is FAR from finis! No: skin, neck, paint, details, mouth corners... and almost no time... This is what I made: a Mechanical solution. From bicycle cable + house... ...and some other things, parts... ...and I havent sleept for 3 days to finish this project... only in the Car to GamesCon...
Szabó Balázs Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 As I sad before: The head is FAR from finis! No: skin, neck, paint, details, mouth corners... and almost no time... On 2014.Aug.12 - 04:00 came the driver... but see my watch on the pictures... I had to cover the top side somehow, what can be easily remov, when upload is needed for the fogmachine. An old PC for, a little modified, cut, cleaned, and custom pivot made As mentioned: a lott missing... Mouth corner: No time... the skin... Two very big fan (45cm / 18" diameter) was directed on the head, and literally dryed in the car on the way! I skind the hands at GamesCom, waiting to start the (Clock to) 24h Modding
