MisterX Posted January 15, 2015 Share Posted January 15, 2015 Hi everybody! The time has come for a new case mod. I'm naming the mod No. 29 only because copper has number 29 in the periodic table. The colors I'm going for are white, copper and black. I've seen that color combo a couple times before but at least I know it looks good! The case I'm gonna mod is a Cooler Master Cosmos II. I really like the look of it and have been wanting to have one since it came out. I cut out the plastic in the front with a dremel. A little taste of whats to come. I need to get some 10mm pipes for the front grill though. That's 12mm in the picture. MisterX Posted January 15, 2015 Author Share Posted January 15, 2015 I've continued to work on the front panel this weekend. This is what I got so far. Front filter removed to show off the pipes better. I'll most likely have the front as exhaust anyway so the filter isn't needed. A little preview. Try to ignore that the pipes are dirty, they're going to be polished later on. I'm going to paint the front and roof panels in white. There's also going to be white mesh in front of the pipes. MisterX Posted January 15, 2015 Author Share Posted January 15, 2015 In this update I'll show you how I reversed the motherboard in the Cosmos II:) Started with removing the motherboard tray... ...and the midplate. First cut. To bad that the fan hole was so near the edge on the backpanel. It worked out OK. Masked off the mb-tray to make it a bit smaller. Much better:) The beginning of the new backplate. Mounted in the case. So far so good:) Next up is to do the fan hole and cut out for the I/O and pci. Also have to cut some more in the back of the case to make room for the fan. MisterX Posted January 15, 2015 Author Share Posted January 15, 2015 Update time:) I've continued to work on some panels/mods for a couple of days. I've cut out the fan hole and I/O in the backpanel which is now ready for paint. Since I'm going for a 480 rad in the roof the whole roof needs to be ventilated. So I made this panel instead of the normal slide-panel. Handles, legs and toppanel painted in copper:) It's going to look something like this. The panel is not screwed tight in the picture, that's why it's not level with the mesh. The mesh and plastic is going to be painted in white. The panel to the right of the MB-tray is going to serve both as reinforcement for the MB-tray and as a cover plate. Just need to cut some cable management holes in it. MisterX Posted January 15, 2015 Author Share Posted January 15, 2015 Time for another update! I've spent all free time this last week on prepping and painting. Put everything together to see it as whole before I tear it down again to continue to work on the case:) The copper pipes that are going in the front are excluded in the pics though. I will also do a large window in the door. It will be my first time bending plexi:) I've also made a lightbox for this case. A little different than my last one though. This one is black but lights up white:) Here's all the pieces I cut out for this lightbox. From the left: 3mm mirrored plexi, "walls" made from white 3mm plexi, the black top piece 3mm and an 8mm clear piece that I've sanded matte for a more even light distribution. Walls glued with Acrifix. I've soldered a couple of LED strips together and mounted them to the walls and I've put in the middle piece. Testing the light distribution. Lid on. Black and shiny. Lights on. White and shiny:D I'll have to drill a couple of holes in it for pass through fittings later on. Next step will be to make some covers for the rads that are going in the bottom and a front plate. Then more painting:) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
MisterX Posted January 15, 2015 Author Share Posted January 15, 2015 I've cut out the midplate for easier access to the bottom. The lightbox is going on top anyway. I only had one 240 and one 360 rad mount. So I cut one fan size off the 360. Measuring where to put the rad mounts. I'm not going to use the RX240, it's just there for testfitting. All done:) First cover panel for the rads. Test fitting making sure everything fits. MisterX Posted January 15, 2015 Author Share Posted January 15, 2015 I've continued to work on the cover plates for the rads. Turns out I made a mistake on the first panel. The mistake I made was to just mount the fans without rad to the radmount when I took the measurements for the fan holes. As a result the holes came out about 2mm to far apart, didn't look right. I will redo that panel. Thought I'd show you these pictures anyway on how I've mounted the panel as the new one will be mounted the same way. I've threaded the existing holes in the midplate to M4... ...and a little aluminum thingy at the bottom, also with an M4 thread. This is what it looks like mounted without rad, don't have any pictures with rad mounted but as I said it didn't look right:) Started making the panel for the other side. This time with rad mounted:D Same mounting for this side. Drilled holes and threaded to M4. Cable management hole. All done! Next will be to redo the first cover plate. I will also redo the upper cover plate for the MB. I want it to cover the whole backside of the motherboard tray. That's going to allow easy cable management with p-clips and look much cleaner:) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
MisterX Posted January 15, 2015 Author Share Posted January 15, 2015 I've decided to keep X79 a while longer so thought I'd paint the RAM to suit the build. This panel is going in the front under the sliding hatch. Copper RAM:) I use a high gloss varnish on everything painted copper and matte varnish on the white and black. I've redone the cover panel for the rads and painted it. I've also painted the back panel for the motherboard. Cut the roof to fit a 480 rad. I've mounted switches and my Aquaero to the front panel. I'll use one switch for PWR and one for the lightbox. Reset switches are overrated:) Motherboard tray with back panel screwed together with nuts and bolts. I'll use screws as much as possible, don't like rivets. Brainwashers to protect the paint:) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm using plastic spacers between the panel and the MB-tray. The screws are obviously going to be shortened or switched to shorter ones:) All painted.
