Quantor Posted April 29, 2015 Author Share Posted April 29, 2015 Day 23: I've started this day by preparing the mounting for the back part of the desk plate... After that I was again filling and smoothing some edges and slots... And then installing the middle wall which is seperating the visible front compartment from the back compartment.... As a next step I was working on the cover for the tubes connecting the front legs with the back legs... And also mounting the rear desk-legs... and again... sanding... coating.... After this I've finished to work on the project in my Workshop and moved it into my living-room.... Quantor Posted April 29, 2015 Author Share Posted April 29, 2015 Day 30 After I've moved the project over to my living room it turned out that the Timing was just right... Received ordered parts.... and started to integrate all components into the desk.... Starting with the 230mm BitFenix Spectre Pro Fans..... I removed the backframes of the fans, so that I could easily take them out from the back side and using them later on as maintenance flaps..... Later on the Fans would also receive a cover for dust-protection.... Right after inserting the fans I've installed the Cooler Master PSUs..... Starting with the V450S: and then the V850: First I needed some Kind of mounting kit. It turned out that some 2.5" Frames from the two cheap cases I bought were the optimal solution for this Task.... then I place some sort of Anti-Vibration-Isolation around them.... ...and added the PSU.... Next I've added the 250mm Fan to the project which I removed out of an old APlus-HTPC-Case.... and finally screwed the MB-Trays on the false bottoms.... And the last things I've done on this day was installing the Radiators and the remaining 120mm BitFenix Spectre Pro Fans.... ....and placed some Phobya Radiator Covers on the outsides.... Quantor Posted April 29, 2015 Author Share Posted April 29, 2015 Day 31 The Day started by receiving a package from Sapphire containing two graphic Cards for the project... One Sapphire R7 250 Ultimate, a passive cooled noiseless Card for the "Office-Side" of the desk.... And one Sapphire R9 290x 8GB Vapor-X OC-Version. This Special one came without the normal packaging, as it is a Factory-sample with higher clocks than the reseller-versions.... The normal Version is sold with a Standard clock of 1.030 MHz and this one got a factory Default by 1.060MHz... LEDs on the backside of the Card working as some kind of Equalizer, visualising the GPU-Load.... while the Sapphire-Logo is indicating the temperature by changing it's Colors from Green over Yellow to Red.... Having such a good start into the day it was time for some "real" work.... But first I needed to have a word with one of our cats to make it clear: My Desk is not a place build for you !!! Then I've started by sanding the old Desk Legs which I wanted to use as connectors between the new front and back legs.... Also I've received two more smal packages on this day, containing some items I bought on ebay.... And then moved on by installing the Touchscreen into the front desk plate.... ....and testing them... (connected at this time to one of my PC Standing beyond the desk.... After that I was installing the brackets for the additional ballancers....... and covering the 250mm Fan by using the original cover from the old HTPC-Case.... Quantor Posted April 29, 2015 Author Share Posted April 29, 2015 Day 32 On the next day I was working on the back legs by drilling holes for the connectors into their lower covers... For testing I've used one of the unused old desk legs, cause I didn't wanted to ruin the fresh paint on the already prepared ones.... After that I've also drilled the holes for the On/Off Switches into the front plate.... /CENTER] And a hole for supplying power to the whole desk into the back of the table.... Also I've prepared some sleeved cables extensions for the project, by connecting them to the Power Supplys and moving them into their intended positions.... And next I've supplied power to the desk.... ...and prepared some Alu-Covers for the Corners of the desk.... ...as I didn't like the A+ Logo shining through the cover of the 250mm Fan I've covered it with a BitFenix Aluminium Sticker as I'm addicted to their fans and as their logo Looks much better....... Quantor Posted April 29, 2015 Author Share Posted April 29, 2015 Day 33 On that day I've started to work on the Fittings and Connections for my selfmade sparkling water columns balancers / desk leg combinations.... But first I've mounted the four Aluminium Profile covers for the Corners.... I've used the acrylic cutting kit from Monsoon to cut off two 10mm pipes.... Then I've mounted two Monsoon Hardline Economy Fittings on them and mounted them to some bulkhead coupling... As my sparkling columns are only have 2mm thin acrylic material I was not able to cut a mounting thread into it... So I was foced to glue them... For that reason I tried to use Monsonn acrylic clue... But I forgot about buying an UV-lamp to dry it... And as their also was no sun shinning outside (winter-time) I've used a more unconventional method by deposing the parts to our lizard sitting in one of our Terrariums... He got UV-bulbs in it Attention: NO ANIMAL was harmed during this build... The lizeard received much needed Ventilation during the drying process in his "home".... As this worked out good and fast, I decided to do the same with the 2nd balancer... Let me say a few words to my "construction"... The tubes I've inserted into the columns were partly cutted into two halfs while being inserted into the columns... The open side pointing upwards and the closed half downwards... The effect I wanted to achive was that the stream of bubbles comming from the bottom of the sparkler will be divided by the closed half tube and reuniting again a bit over the open half... So I wanted to make sure that no (or at least not much) bubbles will have the chance to get into the Loops.... After both balancers and ist Connections were dry it was about the time to test them.... First I've filled water into the columns and waited for some hours to see if they leak or not... After 6 hours without leaking a drop it was time for Phase two: 1. Building two small Loops by connecting the pumps and turn them on and connecting a tube on the new connectors and to the pump and from there back into the columns... 2. Turning on the sparkler of the columns 3. Let them run for a 24hrs burn-in test... Result: Worked out great... no leakage..... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Quantor Posted April 29, 2015 Author Share Posted April 29, 2015 Day 34 For my gaming side (:)-Side) of the project I've ordered a new ASUS Maximus Hero VII Board on ebay as I've received no answers from the companies I've contacted about a possible sponsorship.... Was a Little sad, cause expected at least an email with a "No" in it instead of Hearing absolutly nothing... After receiving the new board I was able to work on the false bottoms by modifying them with cable Slots... I've used Phobya rubber feed-throughs which I needed to modify a bit so that I could use them with 19mm thick wooden plates instead of 2-4mm steel or Aluminium for which they're normally intended.... First I've mounted a Phobya Touch 6 Fan/Pump Controller in one of the till now unused 5 1/4" slots And then worked on the bottom covers for the connectors again.... First I've inserted normal tube and power cables for the sparkling columns into the connector-pipes.... The I've mounted the pipes through the openings and screwed them to the backplates of the backward desk legs.... and connected the tubes with the balancers... by using longer pieces of tubes I'm still able to move the front desk legs around in a specified radius.... Was not that easy as it seemed, cause a lot of things needed to be done at the same time while lying under the table... But after a while everything was in Position...... First I've cutted additional cable tunnels through the false bottoms... These will later on "invisible" in caus of sitting behind a cover.... Then I've connected the fans on the :)-Side to the Phobya Controller..... ...and tested their functionality..... Then done the same with the middle 250mm Fan.... Quantor Posted April 29, 2015 Author Share Posted April 29, 2015 Day 37 New Day - New package Received a small delivery from a electronics warehouse which I've ordered a few days before.... I've immediately added them to the project.... First: A new DVD-Burner which I've inserted into the 2nd empty Slot on the :)-Side.... Then three Covers normally used for audio-Speakers, big enough to cover my 230mm and 250mm fans.... Quick Check after the Installation.....
