Quantor Posted April 30, 2015 Author Share Posted April 30, 2015 Day 58 The last package with the last missing puzzle part was received... time to make the next step.... Inside this package was ordered EL-Foil.... or lighting-foil (electroluminiszenz)...for completing my lighting-concept.... the big Advantage of this foil is that you can cut it into nearly every shape... adding contacts... connect it to an Inverter and it lights up..... So I cutted the Color filter foils into pieces matching the logos on the logo-foil.... In my next step I made copies of the logos and placed it on the EL-Foil.... Then I made a sketch of how I planned to cut the A4 EL-Foil.... And then cutting the EL-Foil into the required sectors.... In a next step I used clear tape to seal the edges of the cutted pieces.... And then I was modifying the Inverters to connect them to the PC-PSUs.... Adding contacts to the EL-pieces.... ....and wiring them.... Time for some function tests.... and testing it together with the dark plexiglass.... After these tests were fully successful I've noticed that the filter foils are completly invisible under the dark plexi... so I've started to color my logos on the logo-foil using the filter-foils.... Next I made some more Light-experiments... Please notice that the Logo-Foil is still attached to a carrier foil and the EL-Foil is shining through the carrier, throug the logos, through the filters and through the plexi !!!! Quantor Posted April 30, 2015 Author Share Posted April 30, 2015 Day 59 On this day I've made the final modifications to the backward desk plate.... Was a bit tricky to bring all the foils together with the Desk-Plate... especially the fine plotted Logo-Foil made a lot of work and kept troubling me.... But finally I've made it..... Looking not so professional on the first view... but keep in mind that all these bubbles and folds are invisible beyond the dark Plexi-Plate.... After all was in place it were time for a final lighting-test.... checking if all EL-Foils have survived the torture.... All of the Logos are nearly invisible under the dark plexi... only if the flashlight of a camera is directly impacting the Surface you can see some Details.... Last Action for that day was to test the lighting again together wir the LED-Stripes in the Channels for the Acryllic Tubes.... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Quantor Posted April 30, 2015 Author Share Posted April 30, 2015 Day 60 After all Preparations were done... all parts were ready... it was time to bring it all together..... As the backward desk plate was needing cabling for the EL-Foils I forgot to post a snapshot from the backside in my last post... So here it is how's the plat now looking from behind: Next step was to empty both Systems for the final installations.... Then the cables all over the project needed to be "cleaned" and sorted.... Within the same step the Inverters for the EL-Foils were connected to the PSUs Next the two Long acryllic tubes were mounted into the channels of the backward desk plate.... Then the sorted cables were passed through the desk plate, the tube pressed into the channels and the plexi-plate added..... After the compartment in the back was closed with the wooden plate and the plexi I've added the spacers to its positions.... and finally the glass plate on top of them.... Next my Screens and Speakers were positioned on the desk.... And at the end the sensor controlled automatic USB-Ports were added..... Time to (re)flood both Systems.... During this process I've removed the main desk plate again to have a better control over it... Also the "Farbwerk" LED Controllers were adjusted for matching the whole project.... Then the Main Desk Plate was brought in its Position again..... Looking at the Pictures you may have noticed that there is still at least one disturbing Detail... Quantor Posted April 30, 2015 Author Share Posted April 30, 2015 Days 61-64 Looking on the final desk ther were one other Thing disturbing me... During building the desk I've changed one small Detail... Instead of integrating the Radiators directly into the Wood as I've planned it before I've just screwed them vs. the Wood instead... This Little Change has had an Impact on the whole plans and I've forgotten to copy this Detail to my meassures for the main desk plate... or better said: the Position of the outer Windows were impacted... With the now changed Detail I was starring at the side fans while looking throught the Windows... Normaly they would have covered by the outer Frame of the plate.... So I decided to replace and redoo the main desk plate again on short notice.... Here's a last view on the old one: So my friend stopped by and brought again his Equipment with him.... Using the old plate as a template for the measuring.... Sawing the new one.... Measuring and marking the new window positions.... Then cutting out the Windows.... Using the router to route the edges.... and finalizing the Corners.... Fitting in the Glass Plates.... Moving the plate back into the living room to check the result.... Here you can see the difference before and after: Before: Left Side After: Left Side After: Center Window Before: Right Side After: Right Side After the main desk plate was now "perfect" it was time to give it the final finish.... So it took me four more days to smooth and oil it.... All in all I've sanded the plate 6 times and oiled it 3 times... Now it is as smooth as a Baby... Here a shot from the difference before and after smoothing and oiling it: (compared to one of the leftovers of the Windows) And now some final impressions from my project: All in all I've worked 271 hours on 64 days on the project during the building Phase (planing not included)... I was drinking 106 litres of coffee... The whole project started on the 1st September 2014 and was finished 5 days ago...
