Megadeblow Posted March 25, 2016 Author Posted March 25, 2016 Been a bit busy with the family lately, but here's a quick update & should have more by the weekend Completed the runner for the glass top/lift, had a couple of ideas for the lift but this was the best option for now, cost & time wise. made from - A CM Storm Reaper mouse wheel, old shower attachment & some spare Alphacool hardtube cut-offs. coated the wheel with some rubber to help grip the glass without scratching hopefully. GPU block fitted & now installed, have a couple of ideas for the loop at this point, will show the results as soon as im done testing them out GPU backplate This one is going on the top/side of the card & will be RGB. reworked a couple of things as I was waiting for some items to arrive, redone the cable a bit better & in a brighter red than the 1st attempt.. Wasn't happy with the 1st carbon ASUS logos so iv also redone them, done them the same as the Deblow logo, used laser cut logos & cut the leather & wood backing to match & blend. Played around with a couple of loop options, 1st was the standard CPU > GPU1 > GPU2 then I tested how it performs going from CPU> GPU1 & 2 My temp on GPU 2 was slightly better & it looked cooler so im sticking with that option Im still getting temps around 3c to 5c hotter on my GPU2 compared to GPU1. could be I need to redo the paste again or tighten the plate up a bit more will mess with it a bit more if the temp on GPU hits 60c or more when hardcore gaming. Used lots of bog roll lol Also completed the Alphacool logo, RGB controlled, so far I like RED & BLUE, hard to get some good pics of the reds though Replaced the 2 fan controllers for 1 duel bay, Phobya MaxGuide 6 The new controller has 6 temp monitors, I plan to just use 3 for now, room temp, desk temp & GPU backplate temp
Megadeblow Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 Have a couple of updates today, missed some days this week due to Metal gear Solids release been anticipating its release for years! anyway, before I head back to Afghanistan to capture sheep heres some updates Wanted to make some covers for the SSDs, by modding some old 360 HD holders I can now cover SSDs without having to mess-about taking my new drives apart & losing the warranty. also means should I upgrade them later & can just keep using the same covers Decided to used the Phobya logo as its dark & mean looking "like the desk" & is one of my favorite sponsor logo. after drawing & cutting the logos I then painted with the same flat black used on other parts of the desk Modified the centre cover to now have an extra blow hole, this is the cover I made to help direct the air towards the GPU. the air also travels along the bottom of the cover, will show that when I do the final photos. Not a great photo or RGB selection, but this is to show the SSD covers in place along with the blow hole cover that you can just about see above the SSDs A year or two ago I painted the CM Reaper mouse (white & black) so for this desk iv decided to paint it again but just plan flat black to match everything else Standard. 1st mods rtmapHOHwe0?list=UUDpQPjon0SXMSrqfacEtGOw New Redone the covers, the carbon I originally used was reflecting too much light for my liking, making it look slightly messy,. so, as with the other re-works I went for a more plane & slick look, yep! flat black again the tape aroud the centers are covering the clear, iv sanded to clear to help with lighting, plan is that they will be RGB. one last update, Today ASUS has kindly sent me some goodies, the main one is the xonar u7 echelon edition sound card.. really nice finish on the xonar so I don't want to flat black it if I can help it. 6mm toughened clear glass top This is the side compartment completed, redone the leather cover & added extra carpet to the sides, also has its own LED lighting to help see whats inside I have a USB port for the ASUS TUF Detective & a 5 port USB 3.0 adapter. I originally only had super bright white LEDs on the 2 corners, after seeing how it looks all completed & decided to add RGB option, It looks great! should have added them from the start, still keeping the super bright white LEDs as there great for back/room lighting. This will be the last update before the final photos just awaiting the keyboard, new screen & Iv also ordered a new DSLR camera. Not planing to change mouse for now, so iv modded the "Reaper" mouse to go with the new theme, Black with red lighting & rather than changing the LEDs (approximately 5) I used filters. stuck with white for the front, red was too dull against the black mouse mat. This is why I need a new camera, the logo & mouse should be a nice red like knight-riders car Added the dye (Mayhems Blood Red) under white lighting its red, other lighting options make it more black looking just like real blood looks at night, I like this effect, but im sure I will test some other dye options at some point as this is the 1st time iv used clear hard tubes. in the back you can see the re-worked fan covers, now flat black with the centres sanded clear to capture light. Hope to be back very soon with the final photos,
Megadeblow Posted March 26, 2016 Author Posted March 26, 2016 The desk is finally done firstly, I think picking RED as my main colour was a mistake! not for me, as it looks fine IRL, but I just cant get the reds to show correct on the photos, So any photos that have what looks like PINK or ORANGE lighting please try imagine that its RED lol because of this problem I decided to take most photos with blue or white lighting on & cut down on the reds used I plan on getting a new camera later so will upload some more if they look any better, For now I have plenty of OK photos for you to look at & a youtube vid will be done over the next couple of weeks. It will be mostly picture links now, so I will say thanks to everyone for the input during my logs & the positive attitudes that help encourage myself & others to keep on building & posting, Thanks to all the people that helped me carry things around due to my leg problem, Carl, Barry, Ian, Andreas & lots more, especially the wife. & all the sponsors that help with the costs of components & support throughout the build. This desk was designed with the hope it would look as good OFF as it would on, so it was all about shapes & natural light, I have very little light in my small room as you will see soon lol. with the shapes came the problem of usability & practicality, i tackled this in a couple of ways, not all perfect but enough to hide/store my clutter & make the desk usable for daily tasks like gaming I know its a bit whack compared to most desks, but I hope you like the final result even if you wouldn't want it in your living-room lets crack on so I can get some sleep! I have some more photos on my FB page @ higher resolution if interested. thats all for now, I will be sure to add any new photos that I think are woth posting & ofc the video link when done to end this off heres a photo from the start.. Thanks again to all that participated, & please do let me know you final thoughts, Good or bad.. Rob (Deblow)
