BAD NEWS

I haven't posted because I don't want to post just bad news. Now that I'm making progress I can give you an update.

The car with enough space to transport the aluminum sheet was broken. It took two weeks to finally fix all the issues and when it was ready I called Mr CNC and told him that we were going to deliver the aluminum sheet.

image.jpeg.22de32d9855ac108cc68745400456b78.jpeg

In that call he told me that his CNC has a space of 75cm x 75cm and that he doesn't have the tool to cut the aluminum sheet in segments because it's very thick (2.03mm). So I needed to cut the aluminum sheet in segments smaller than 75cm x 75cm.

If I had known this before I could have moved and looked for someone to help me with the cuts and deliver the aluminum segments in a taxi and not wait two weeks to get the big car fixed.

OTHER BAD NEWS

The shipping company did process one of the packages that I need (RGB, USB Ports and other small things) but they didn't process the graphics card, so I contacted them and they told me that there was no package with my tracking number. And guess what? The graphics card got lost.

BUT GOOD NEWS

Another week was lost while looking for someone to cut the aluminum but finally yesterday (Friday 18) The aluminum was cut

Today we delivered the aluminum segments to Mr CNC. He told me that he will try to have the parts ready before Wednesday because next week is Christmass.

AND OTHER GOOD NEWS

I submitted a compliant to the store where I bought the graphics card on December 8th. Ten days later they notified me that they found it and it's already been delivered to the shipping company. So now I'm going to have the graphics card first week of the next year and I'm happy with that.

OTHER SMALL NEWS

I bought some paracord, all paracords that I see here have the same pattern. But I think this one will look great in the cables.

THE GRAPHICS CARD

It arrived on monday, one day before the stimated day. The same day it arrived, I tested it and disassembled it to start planning how the :) I'm going to cool it.

Right now I'm planning the best way to adapt the CPU waterblock and how to cool the other small components such as VRAM and VRM. Hopefully tomorrow I'll make a status update with that.

THE MACHINING

Mr CNC finished the wooden parts last week. This week he finished two aluminum parts, the one that goes on the top and the watertank's bracket.

Once the parts are ready, I'll pick them up and start with the sanding.

THE GPU WATERBLOCK

Great! since day one I've been taking measurements to the graphics card. I finally finished last night

I'm still working on this but the idea is build a waterblock bracket with a 45º Angle. The Waterblock is too big and the holes are too close, so to attach the waterblock to the closest GPU holes, the best way is rotating it.

About the VRAM, I'll place an aluminum plate to cold the VRAM and other small components and attach heatsinks to the aluminum plate. And the VRM? I'm looking stores that sells small heatsinks in my city to place one in top.

But that's not all. I need air moving around the heatsinks. So my plan is to cover the GPU in the top and place a 70mm Fan that I have from an older computer. Like the NZXT G12 that adapts an AIO to the GPU.

But with a better design.

THIS WEEK'S PLAN

Mr CNC told me that tomorrow (Jan 7th) will finish with the remaining parts. I also forgot to buy cablecombs so I made a CAD and send it to Mr CNC to make them with the aluminum.

I called some friends to help me with the sleeving they will come here this Saturday (Jan 9th). I'm counting that Mr CNC will deliver the aluminum pieces in time because without them we can't start making the cables. I also need to sand the aluminum before this saturday so I'm a bit stressed.

I want to finish this project next week and have some time to make a photoshoot or maybe record a video.

So... I can't finish this project.

A lot of stuff happened.

The CNC had an error and the big aluminum parts are streched in the X Axis. So all the holes are in the wrong position. Solve this took me a lot of time and money.

The MDF and Acrilic parts were delayed, same with the paint and the cabling.

I need more AWG16 Cable and can't find in my city, same with some screws for the graphics card.

I work as a Graphic Designer, not as a Modder or a Maker so can't dedicate the 24h a day to this project and Venezuela is a huge bottleneck for me. I wasted time looking for Aluminum, CNC, waiting for the packages to arrive and solving problems that in other countrys just don't exists.

All my plans were delayed and I'm waaay over the budget so the only thing that I can do is give up.

This was a great experience and I collected a lot of knowledge. I learned about how to use AutoCAD and Fusion360, Learned about materials, meassurements, CNC basics, sleeving and watercooling stuff.

I'll finish this project but at my time. I'll post every update on my personal instagram (https://www.instagram.com/gsuso_/)

Can't say this was for nothing because I'm making new stuff with my hands and learning from the errors that I made.

Maybe next time I'll come up with something better.
