Peter Hoople
Hi Everyone! This is my first year participating in CMWS, so wish me luck! I've got a fairly ambitious mod in mind, and doing a scratch build seemed like the easiest way to pull it off. I am going to try to fit an mATX board, full-sized GPU, full-sized PSU, and a Cooler Master MasterAir MA620M inside less than 20L of space. My current case is a Fractal Design Node 804, and while I like it, it's always felt just a little too big, so I'm going to transplant my current system into a new scratch-built SFF case, which I want to base off of the Quadra Type-66 from Cyberpunk 2077. I'm a big fan of cars, and the Type-66 has a tough muscle car look that I really like. I've had an idea for a while to put an oversized cooler in a small case and cut a hole in it for the cooler to stick out, like a hot rod engine or a shaker hood. I've been looking at a lot of automotive images for inspiration. I want the top of the case to open like the hood of a car so you can see the internals, but when it's closed you just see the top of the cooler sticking out, which tells you it's a serious build but doesn't show off everything. How am I gonna pull this off? Honestly? I have no idea... I've never tried something like this before, but I'm an artist and a DIYer so I'll be experimenting to see how I can get the look that I'm going for. I'll update this build log as I start to work on my case, so stay tuned to see how it comes out!
E x e
Welcome to competition. Cool idea, maybe you could try with cooler master V8 cooler for start. PM for any question
Peter Hoople
The cooler came this week! Thanks Exe for the suggestion to use the V8... I really wanted to use it because the name fits the theme, but the cooler I went with is a bit shorter and has a cleaner aesthetic. I also think I can keep my system sealed from dust since the top of the cooler sticks out above the cooling fins and the fan. I've got a couple photos of the cooler and a rough concept sketch which may change as I go along.
