thechoozen Posted April 12, 2011 Share Posted April 12, 2011 Hi @ all Like you can imagine from the title i´m going to build a scratch build wall-e pc, in the past i already build another wall-e pc but this time i´m going to change a few things. It will be build mostly out of metal, and it should move I´m already in the middle of the building process so i have to share a bit of the work i did so far before i can start with regular updates First i started with a few test on the "brain" for my wall-e, the arduino wil control the most parts of the electronic...but more to that later.... After the first test, i started to build the body of the case case, therefore i took a big sheet of metal, cut away not needed parts...and bended the rest into the right shape After that i also made a bottom plate for the case, and mounted the first Parts from on old RC Toy which will be driving force in my project (motor, gear and axis from an old Toy RC Tank) after mounting those parts for a first test i cutted out all those parts away which would disturb the rotation of the axis Then i continued with cutting out the top and the backside part for the case so that the case can be closed After closing the case....i continued with the first part of the head....the neck for the neck, i first cutted out a few plexiglas parts which then were drilled and assembled ... under the top of the case i already mount a first servo which will controll the movement of our head and i also started to build the first parts of the chain drive... thechoozen Posted April 13, 2011 Author Share Posted April 13, 2011 after the neck i continued with the first layer of the eyes.... and the next parts of the chain drive then an old io shield was prepared to fit inside... and the chain was mounted for a first test the next layer for the eyes ... and assembled for a first test.... next parts of the chain drive .... and the electronics mounted unter the top plate, the arduino and the servos will be powered by a choiix power fort and the raw front lid.... Next i decided to reuse an old htc magician to get an working front display for my wall-e (as standalone device: while wall-e is moving it could handle videos or soundfiles or it can be used as part of the windows desktop as soon as the pc is powered on) first part of the first arm attached to it´s servo ...and the holding clip which secures the htc magician... and the next parts of the arms.... everything together for a quick test.... hands.... place for the display.... display test Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It´s time for another update One of the next steps, was to build the arms and the hands, i already cutted out the outer parts which now got heated up and then bended after that the arms were prepared so that they could hold the hands then the arms were assembled for a quick test so that we could see if the size would match the rest of our wall-e As next we put in the mainbase for a first test and prepared the backside for the next cuts beside that i started to mount the electronics for the chain drive then i bended a few covers for the servos... i also choosed a fan for the backside and made the next cuts the mainbase gets airbrushed.... and a small piece of mesh was added to the blowhole the arms get painted and the mesh too.... and we choosed a mainboard for the project Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Airbrushed + assembled arms.... the eyes were also prepared with a bit of bondo before we could start the painting process.... a few new holes in the top.... and a small cover for the arduino was cut out.... ....and bended.... our "psu" loose in place....for a first test.... we also assembled the mainboard for a first test... and drilled all holes which are needed to assemble a few hdd/ssd then the next parts were painted..... ....before we made the last cuts in the front of the case....for the dvd drive.... we also bended a small drive "cage" so that the dvd drive can be mounted like in a normal case....
