khezan
This will be my buildlog for a custom desk made out of birch, mahogany and steel. If you don't want the text just scroll down for the pictures:) Prologue: So about 2 years ago I wanted to build my own custom build and I set myself on to make a desk build but I wanted to be different so I decided I'll have a welded steel frame and a hardwood shroud as well as mahogany and teak interior. What you will see here is an insane amount of work and I hope someone enjoys it:) I intend to enlist in scratch build competitions as well as be at several events such as Dreamhack in sweden and so on. Parts for Pc: Motherboard: Msi BigBangxpower 2. x 79 Processor: i7-3930k overclocked to 4.6GHz Ram: 32gb dominator corsair GPU(s): 2 Asus gtx 980s PSU: Corsair ax1500i Storage: 2 6tb WD Red+3 evo 500 ssd's in raid 0 Audio: DAC/AMP Odac objective 2 from mayflower electronics Headphones: Sennheiser HD 650 + Audiostack etc Watercooling: Radiators: 2xNeXXos Monstah 560mm+1x360mm alphacool 60 mm thick Pumps: 2xD5 EKWB pwm pumps Reservoir: Custom Acrylic Dual Loop Reservoir from Singularity Computers Piping: Full iodized copper piping Blocks: EK Fittigts: EK/bitspower Fans:16x140mm Pk2 Noiseblocker+9x120mm noiseblocker pl3 Fan Controller: Lamptron FC5V3 And here goes: Started off welding a standard frame with 3 main compartments. This is the radiator bay: Worst drawing eu:D The welding continues. Now I have room for my legs and the fanholes covered. That's for my knees Gonna have some temperature gauges here The wood was ordered from a local shop. Birch is hard and heavy. Not very light:) but that doesn't matter Dimensions for the panels were 1700x230x70 and 2x900x230x70 Having some fun with the Caselabs motherboard trash and the PSU Wanted a certain shape to the wood so I went to the shop and had them roughly cut and then sanded by hand to the desired shape. This was rather tidious After my rough drawing on the custom reservoir Singularity Computers returned with this design. It looks amazing Welded steel legs from 60mm hollow pipe. Looks pretty nice Friend helping me out here. With both the welding and lathing of the monitor stand
khezan
The table has its own legs finally:) Monitor stand in place Real professional method of looking at how a screen will look:) Gotta get 3 screen compatible so got some 1 inch steel plate and went to work Looks pretty nice. Weighs a ton but who cares:) Got the table home and started playing around with the parts again Testfitting radiators And a lot of other stuff Had to start organizing the parts. Testrunning fancontroller and the fans. everything works:) Reservoir finished. Huge shoutout to Singularity Computers who wanted to do this one. Click below for his video on how it was done. We'll have a lot more pictures in the future on this one so dont worry:) His video
khezan
Time to get started with the inner panels then. Using some 20 year airdried mahogany and teakpanels for this. It's the same stuff you put on your wooden boat basically. I just love the look of this:) Cutting and aligning them in space Pretty hard work to get those lines to match but well worth the effort Quite a few hours later Had to redo some of the metalwork due to some late design changes. Thanks Michael for the help on this one! Ended up plasmacutting a new bottom for the starboard side This will do:) In order to make a perfectly round whole one has to make a piece like this to lathe it out:) Then had to take away about half an inch to make room for the fans That looks pretty decent Psu side Had to get some of the pieces together in order to remount them after varnishing them Custom PSU rack. To mount the Psu, 3 ssd:s and 2 hdd:s Bottom plate for reservoir Got the stuff painted
